A Travel Plan is an instrument that takes into account a set of measures, defined in function of specific needs and tailored to each specific case, aiming at promoting sustainable transport that relies less on the car. It involves the conception and development of mechanisms that allow organizations to reduce energetic and environmental impacts of travel. These mechanisms simultaneously generate economic and social benefits.

In a School, the elaboration of a Travel Plan includes a strong pedagogic component in the field of environmental education. The students are a privileged means of transmitting a message of environmental sustainability to their parents and relatives, which amplifies the positive effects of an action of this type. This approach is a simple and effective manner of reaching individuals possibly less receptive to changing transport habits. Also, it contributes for the general improvement of awareness raising amongst the population of Almada in matters related to the impacts of transport in the environment.
