"Terrassa has been one of the first cities in Spain to develop a Local Transport Plan (LTP). Nowadays, Terrassa is in the phase of applying the measures defined in the LTP. So our main interest in the project is to improve the knowledge of technical and political actors through different experiences and results concerning: Individualised travel marketing; road safety, road pricing and mobility & education. The challenge is to guarantee the success of implementing the LTP measures. "

Our interest in PIMMS is to...
  • Exchange knowledge regarding mobility management in general as well as good practices.
• Increase social and political awareness in the sustainable mobility.
• Explore specifically: ways to school, bicycles, industrial zones accessibility, road safety, and educational issues.

1. Main characteristics of the city/region
  • Population 200,000
• Urban and inter-urban bus services, taxi and railway inter-urban services
• Modal split: the displacements within Terrassa are made basically on foot (32,5%), in private vehicles (53,7%)and urban public transport (13,7%).
• The City Council carries out the mobility planning policy in the fields that the law permits: traffic regulation, car park policy and urban public transport supply.

2. Main transport issues
  • Residential areas in the North of the city and industrial areas in the South.
• No public transport supply in the industrial areas.
• No bicycle network.
• No integrated infrastructures between 2 interurban railways.
• Change in commuter behaviour: More use of private car with longer journeys and travel times.

There is an educational project entitled “Go to school” that has carried out some proposals regarding safety.

The last urban planning review takes into consideration mobility aspects.

Terrassa approved in 2002 its Local Transport Plan. It develops all issues concerning urban mobility, even specific travel plans to industrial areas and schools; Expertise in the implementation of sustainable mobility actions.
